I’ve had the Immortals After Dark on my recommended list for a while, so I finally trekked over to a website to find the reading order for the series. I have to say, after getting through about half of this novella, it’ll be a while before I think about giving the rest of the series a go. This is nothing more than overpriced erotica where the main character is forced through magic to follow every order the “hero” gives. He justifies it by saying that she left him with a magical hard-on for five years when she chose not to sleep with him right after he threatened to torture her. I don’t know about you, but a guy telling me he’s going to break my bones for information wouldn’t be a turn on for me either.I absolutely hated the guy in this story. I have zero sympathy for him or his reasons behind forcing Myst to become his bride and sexually satisfy him without the choice to even say no. If this is the type of “alpha male” that this author writes, than I don’t understand the appeal.Without the magical control, I may have been ok because I did like Myst at the beginning. Wroth needs to be strung up, though, and it was so bad that I couldn’t finish or recommend this to others.

I started this series on the recommendation of a friend who is a romance author, and I devoured this sexy novella in a single evening. I had certain preconceptions about the two main characters based on the back-cover text, which were smashed immediately.The heroine Myst, especially, was not what I expected at all. The intricate world-building enhances the complexity of her character, and I look forward to learning about the magical elements of this urban fantasy world. Also, she's hilarious, which will always make me favor a character.Nikolai trends toward the typical Alpha hero, but where I thought the book was going to be kind of rapey, he proved that consent is still way sexier. Major consent issues in this story regarding personal freedom are still present, but it trends toward the kink side rather than straight-up problematic. Readers should be conscious of potential triggers.While the "Bride" concept is an interesting twist on the vampire mythos, I do find it incredibly heteronormative. It will be interesting to see how this plays out through further partnerships in the series.

The IAD books have a special place in my heart because it was my first foray into paranormal romance. In Warlord Wants Forever Myst the Coveted, a drop dead beautiful Valkyrie, is pursued by the ruthless Nikolai Wroth, a vampire general in the Forbearer Army.Myst is Nikolai's Bride. When a vampire reaches maturity his heart stops beating, he quits breathing and all sexual desire disappears. Until he meets his Bride. She is fated to him and will cause his heart to beat once more. Myst "bloods" Nikolai when he recognizes her as his Bride. However, Nikolai isn't the first vamp she's ever blooded, and she fiercely resists his attempts to possess her.What I loved about this book:Seriously, Kresley Cole has a god-given gift for writing some of the sexiest, steamiest love scenes I've ever read. And the world she's created, the Lore, where there are many factions and species of immortals is only just introduced here. Warlord Wants Forever is a seductive taste of the Immortals After Dark universe that will leave you wanting more. KC's Valkyrie are also one of my favorite paranormal creatures. These ladies are smart, beautiful and funny. They are also acquisitive, temperamental and violent. And I love them. Did I mention humor? This series has it in droves, and, once more, Warlord Wants Forever is just a sampling of KC's hilarious sense of humor.What I didn't like:Nikolai is your standard alpha male. As we all know the slope from alpha to alpha hole is a slippery one, and Nikolai doesn't so much as toe the line as stomp all over it. Luckily, he is redeemed, but only just.My real problem in this book is Myst. I loved her at first and despite my misgivings what I really admire most about her is she stays true to herself - even when she finds herself torn between two different things. There's a difference between a man who takes charge and a man who tries to take charge of you. A man who takes charge melts me into a pile of honey all over the floor. A man who tries to take charge of me melts my temper and causes me to devolve into a crazywoman that likes to pull out her meticulously cared for hair in fits of frustration. All that work down the drain. I empathize with Myst - which is why I can't hate her. However I still wish she didn't swing from hot to cold so much.And to top it all off can I just say how hot I find Murdoch, Nikolai's brother (there are four!) and Kristoff, the Forbearer King. Oh baby...Although this book is the first in the series a reader can pick up the second book, A Hunger Like No Other, without any confusion. But I still recommend reading it - it's not to be missed for fans of this series and a great introduction to everything Immortals After Dark.

This book was terrible and crazy and hilarious and I FREAKING LOVED IT.Starting it was like being thrown into a tornado because I had no idea what was going on, but Myst the sassy Valkyrie kept me hooked. I loved how fierce she was and her sense of humor was top notch. The plot of this book is insane, but it’s also a romance novel and I’m here for the cheap thrills. I’m also really intrigued by this universe! Never in my life have I read anything about the Valkyrie and all the other creatures had a new spin to them that was refreshing. I’m already excited to read more outrageous stories about these characters.↬ FINAL WORDThis was hilarious, both intentionally and unintentionally. If you love the cheap romantic thrills like I do, this is a great, fun read.
