I enjoyed this story as told to us by an ill treated dog. I did enjoy her tale and the wonderful outcome.
I loved this book. I usually see the book playing out in my imagination, and the descriptions of the scenes makes it easy to do that. I can see the little mouse, and I can feel the resignation. What I also like, was that the author tackled a topic that is difficult and painful, and although one has no doubt as to what happened, his words allow one to go there if you wish. It is not brutal and in your face, but it leaves no doubt. The emotions of the dog was portrayed brilliantly. Resigned and wishful, but with a sweet spirit. The whole book made me want to take even better care of our dog - and she is spoiled already!
The story is told from a pup' s point of view so is just as precious as a pup, once we get past Jessica the puppy' s early days. This is NOT a book for, or to be shared with a child, as her owner, a grown man, abuses and neglects her. I learned a new, sad fact from Jessica talking about another, adult dog after she is taken from the bad man; humans with ugly hearts "dock" (shorten) the ears of dogs they intend to fight so the other dog in the fight can't clamp their teeth onto the first dog's ears. So God bless the fosters, the no-kill shelters, the volunteers, and the adopters and rescuers, along with those who exhort others to adopt rather than shop. A short and good read.
It was a very sad story about how a puppy was abused feeling scared, confused "wondering WHY and what did I do wrong to be abused, injured, and forced outside with little food away from the other dogs".I cried a lot reading this story and was glad that this disabled dog wasn't "put down" and she was placed in a loving home and given a chance to feel love which is what every animal should have.Sadly many people neglect animals and I've been very fortunate to have rescued many cats abandoned by people. My cats were loving and made me smile and laugh daily. It was the best feeling in the world and every animal like Jessica deserves to feel safe and loved. What a beautiful story including love and friendship of the 2 older dogs who actually accepted her into the pack, ( animals get bought to the pound when they're incidents of fights which actually causes "animals to be put down" by what's written on a card which still happens when contacting a trainer could easily "fix these issues"
Recommended to anyone who has ever adopted or rescued a dog. Great story telling from a dogs point of view. I rescued a German Shepherd a year ago, and have often wondered about her life prior to coming here... She was a bit older than a puppy, but not by a lot. She gets along greatly with my other pups, and did the same thing to my husband when she first met him....growled, then quickly realized Papa was full of hugs and kisses. Thanks for such a nice read of a short story, reminds me of our own precious fur baby! I look forward to reading more of "Jessica's Diary Tales"
At first I didn't know what this book would be about. I was crying by the end of the first page. But...as you can imagine, there is a happy ending. The way the book is written, from an abused puppy's perspective, is an awesome way to get the information out in the open that animals do have thoughts and feelings, just like we do. This is a short story, but you won't be able to put it down. I wish everyone could read this book and put their feelings into action to stop all animal abuse. Kudos to the author!
This was a heart-wrenching story told from a puppy's point of view and has a beautiful ending. I love these stories. I wish all shelter animals, as well as, neglected and abused animals had a wonderful ending like Jessica's. All abusers of animals, such as Jessica's abuser, should have the same kind of pain and torment inflicted on themselves as they inflict on the poor abused animals. Then they'd see how it feels and realize that animals are sentient beings that feel pain, love, fear, etc. Also, I feel that anybody who takes an unwanted pet and puts them out of the car in a place that's strange to the pet just to get rid of them should have the same thing done to them. These animals are scared, hungry, thirsty, maybe hot or cold, don't know where to go as they have been dropped off in a strange place, maybe sick or maimed. These people should be taken out into the middle of the desert or out in the Northwest and dropped with no food, water, maps, proper clothing, phone, etc., with only the clothes on their backs and no money! PEOPLE, IF YOU DON'T WANT YOUR PET ANY LONGER, AT LEAST TAKE IT TO AN ANIMAL SHELTER!!!Animals are angels in disguise. (and should be treated like angels.)
This story is written from the perspective of an abused puppy who gets a chance at life. At times harsh, I cringed at some of the misery the puppy endured. In the end things turned out well. I am one of those people who cover my eyes with my hands during the scary part of a movie and I felt a little like that reading this book. I love the creative focus from which the story unfolds.
I loved this story about Jessica told from her point of view. Her horrible beginning to being saved to having to have her leg amputated to a happy ending. It was so beautifully written and I cried at her abusive treatment and again at her happy ending. To share her feelings was a unique feeling. I have often wondered what my animals are thinking and Jessica gave me insight into this. I highly recommend for any age.
