I enjoyed reading it, but honestly the information in the book can be found on the internet. It did help me answer one of my biggest questions about the FBI so I was grateful for that. Thomas Ackerman's book will give you much more detail on the specifics of the Phase I and II testing, along with what to expect in Phase III. It reads like a manual, essentially. However, this book reads like a , well, "book" and does a better job of giving you an idea of what to expect in your day-to-day work with the FBI. I think the two books together would give you the most well-rounded and comprehensive idea of what this job would entail. Dr. Koletar is amazing in this work. Even if you don't make the FBI's final cut this book makes full the full lifetime experience of being a federal agent, nicely done☺ This book is awesome. If you're training to be a "g-man" you have to do your homework. I call it "public secrets" - information found in this book is "public" but most people don't take the time to seek it out. Anyway, great book. Good luck to anyone on their way into the greatest law enforcement group anywhere in the world. As my recruiter used to tell me - if you've got the fire in the belly, the rest will fall into place. It was kind of entertaining, but it's not helpful if you are planing on applying to be a real special agent. It's written for someone who has already passed the tests to be an agent and I guess the FBI already has their own orientation books and courses. Also, the information is quit outdated. Don't recommend it. A matter of fact book on the attributes of the FBI, what it takes to become an employee of the FBI, and the rigors of the work as an agent. It scraps away the veil of mysticism of the institution and gives the reader a square reality of this career field. I'd recommend this book to anyone considering work in law enforcement and thinking about the FBI. I needed to do some research for a story I was writing when I came upon this book. Koletar provides a lot of information that can seem a bit overwhelming at times but is necessary to give the reader the big picture. I enjoyed the book very much. My need for this book was not to evaluate the FBI as a career choice. I had a lot of questions regarding field office structure and procedures for investigating crimes for a mystery I'm working on. Instead of addressing my questions to the Bureau I bought this book and got immediate answers to all of my questions through my Kindle. Plus I picked up other pointers regarding investigative techniques that are helpful; e.g. witnesses should be separated and interviewed individually so they won't influence each other and form a consensus (too bad juries are allowed to do this during deliberation).This is an excellent book for any crime writer looking for a worthwhile addition to their reference library.
