Love every word I've read from this book. It's a enduring work of Christian Beauty.I have a friend who has been through a lot recently - close to death several times - loss of loved ones also. He has told me several times how this book has been an incredible help to him. Especially for wisdom and counsel in suffering.
This book is desperately needed in the American Christianity of the day. We are so easily distracted by so many "delights" of the world because we lake the greater vision of Looking unto Jesus. I highly recommend this book to Christians that have found the cisterns of the world to be broken and desire a well the never runs dry for the satisfying of the soul's thirst.
No sappy anecdotes, no doctrinal agenda, no ready made applications, just a long, loving, lingering look at Jesus.
A book that simply points us to Christ. I love that there is nothing of trying to make the reader feel good or think better about themselves, which is so nausiatingly prevalent in our generation. It isn't about some glorious "New revelation." It is about the revelation that is eternally fresh and relevant and rich. It is simply about looking unto Jesus.
This was a thought-provoking work that caused my faith to be increased, and my sanctification to go in a positive direction. This was my first Ambrose book to read and I look forward to reading the Christian warrior.
Just over states what he needs to say ...difficult to follow ...I tried to stick it out but just need to read something with better clarity ... abridged version would be very useful ...
I confess I'm nowhere near finished with this book, and it's not an easy read, due to the small type and the repetition on certain subjects; but the subjects are worthy of repetition and the overall material well worthy of meditation and study, which is what Ambrose created the work for the reader to do.
Excellent resource! So needed in today's evangelical landscape of much "un-deifying" of Jesus Christ.
